The George W. Bush Legacy

February 3rd 2008 03:15
With ‘Super Tuesday’ – the day that 20 of America’s states vote for the nation’s presidential candidates – only two days away politicalwriting.net sees it as an appropriate time to review the legacy of America’s current Commander in Chief, George W. Bush.

George W. Bush is often citied as one of the worst Presidents ever to govern the United States. His bumbling speeches, obvious lack of intellect and blatant disregard for the ‘rules of the game’ have left him as not only one of the most hated personalities in modern politics but one of the least respected.

But what has actually happened to the U.S since George W became head of the empire?

-The nations Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, has fallen by 1.5%. Meaning, economically the nation as a whole is considerably weaker than under President Bill Clinton.

-The nation’s national debt has risen by $4 Trillion.

-There are 5 million more Americans living in poverty since the Bush administration took the helm.

-The average income of Americans has dropped from $49,000 to $48,000 a year.

-The nation’s consumer credit debt has risen by a staggering $5 Trillion.

-The U.S dollar has severely weakened against all the world’s major currencies.

-US trade deficits have risen by $350 Billion.

Based on these figures one simply cannot disagree with the US Democrats criticisms of the Republicans economic management. Bush himself has even admitted the Republicans have failed in this area. The nation is possibly going to enter a recession and Bush is scrambling to get a new economic crisis package pushed through the senate in the coming weeks.

George W. Bush needs a favourable lasting legacy. After all, US Presidents want history to remember them in a positive light. George W. is currently pushing for a Middle East peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians. This is what he is hoping will be the crowning achievement of his eight year legacy, but we anyone with any knowledge of global politics will realise that a lasting a peace agreement between these two groups of people is simply not going to achieved under the world’s current political climate .

With a peace agreement between the modern world’s two most bitter enemies not likely anytime soon it is my humble opinion that Bush will be remembered for three things. Firstly, he will be remembered as the man who decided to invade an innocent nation (Iraq), destroy its entire foundations and murder tens of thousands of people in the name of hatred and economics. Secondly, he will be blamed as the man responsible for ruining the US economy and leaving his successor the mammoth task of fixing an economic and social catastrophe and last but certainly not least, he will be infamously revered as the person who destroyed the lasting remnants of America’s global credibility.

What do I mean by ‘global credibility’? I’ll leave that to the one and only Hunter S. Thompson:

‘We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the entire world. A nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that’s how history will judge us….No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we’ll kill you.’
