Scientology (LINK)

February 10th 2008 05:56
Scientology is the most controversial ‘new religion’ the western world has seen in centuries.

Some call it a verified religion. Some cal it nothing more than a commercial enterprise and others simply label it a fanatical cult.

taken from Wikipedia
L. Ron Hubbard - founder of Scientology

Scientology literally translates to mean, “the study of truth” and the organisations founder L. Ron Hubbard and the hordes of American celebrities affiliated with the group, most notably Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Isaac Hayes ,have certainly generated many channels in the last 10 years of spreading that truth. But what are they talking about?

The Aims of Scientology – Taken form Scientology.org

-A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where man is free to rise to greater heights.

-Nonpolitical in nature, Scientology welcomes any individual of any creed, race or nation.

-We seek no revolution. We seek only evolution to higher states of being for the individual and for society. We are achieving our aims.

-After endless millennia of ignorance about himself, his mind and the universe, a breakthrough has been made for man.

-The combined truths of fifty thousand years of thinking men, distilled and amplified by new discoveries about man, have made for this success.

-We welcome you to Scientology. We only expect of you your help in achieving our aims and helping others. We expect you to be helped.

-In a turbulent world, the job is not easy. But then, if it were, we wouldn't have to be doing it.

-We respect man and believe he is worthy of help. We respect you and believe you, too, can help.

-Scientology does not owe its help. We have done nothing to cause us to propitiate. Had we done so, we would not now be bright enough to do what we are doing.

-Man suspects all offers of help. He has often been betrayed, his confidence shattered. Too frequently he has given his trust and been betrayed. We may err, for we build a world with broken straws. But we will never betray your faith in us so long as you are one of us.

Following the release of the latest scientology diatribe from Tom Cruise the religion has once again been given some media attention. The video is really quite frightening. Not only is the manner in which Cruise delivers his ideas and beliefs frightening but the way that he speaks in such general terms - constantly repeating the same phrases of spiritual babble - is what really made me tremble in my seat .

The religion/organisation/cult has some very scarry moral superiority overtones. The way that Cruise speaks as if he and other scientologists are higher beings is worrying, frightening and of real concern.

As a practising Scientologist I thank L Ron Hubbard for not just unlocking the secrets of the universe for us mere mortals, but for converting Tom Cruise, who in turn led me to audited enlightenment through an aliminium skull cap connected to a power point. It was such a relief because in the early 80s I was going from religion to religion seeking the truth in utter confusion not knowing that Scientology is the only truth. One day I was a Christian working in an abbatoirs, eating roast beef at night at home without guilt. The next day I was a Hindu lying prostrate in a paddock apologising to the cow's mother for eating her sacred son. The next day I was a Jew kidnapping pigs from farms to stop them being turned into bacon and pork. The next day I was a Wican trying to get my auntie to marry a tree in the forest. Then I saw the film Risky Business where Tom parades around in his underpants like a complete looney singing Bob Seger's Old Time Rock 'n Roll and realised through the spirit of L Ron Hubbard that Tom was the future saviour of the world as we know it. The only time I ever doubted Tom's ominipotence was when he married Nicole Kidman, but I have come to realise that it was just his way of trying to help her out and convince her that Hollywood psychiatrists were evil and anti Xenu, but that some people are just stupid and can't be taught the truth as Tom knows it. I'm just glad there is no hell and Nicole will just die and disintegrate and mingle in the earth with decomposed rat's testicles and the likes. This is a great aritcle. There should be more articles like this on Orble about how good Scientology is for mankind.

Transpose Orble blogger for scientologist and you have an interesting transposition.

I don't suppose there's any contradiction between Scientology's lofty goals and the heavy-handed way in which it goes about trying to suppress any and all criticism. Or between the idea that freedom and well-being are desired for everyone, but are actually available only for those who can afford it.

Barlow,

It seems to me that if I find a pot on the street that has decayed over time ... and I start to tell you how that pot decayed, and how it will decay in years to come... and how I am omnipotent as far as that pot is concerned, and as far as you are concerned where information concerning that pot is concerned. I have earned my Scientologicalness.

As a reader of religions, I tried to read their 'Bible' once and ended up with a headache and nausea for three days, although I really like Battlefield Earth, that was pretty schmick ... and in my opinion more believeable than the whole cult put together, especially Cruise.
